One Minute Review: Prometheus
I’m on sabbatical on an island that has no movie theater. OK, technically there is one, but not really. It took a great deal of effort to see Prometheus, but I did it for you, the people. And I did it for me, because I have been so excited to see this movie. Behold, the OMR of Prometheus!

I feel Fr. McKenzie’s reviews sometimes serve to lower my expectations, thus making my ability to enjoy the films a bit better than if I’d been really excited about them. I me huge fan of the ‘alien’ films..fun but I’m not a HUGE fan. I went to see this film mostly because of Damon Lindelof’s involvement in writing.
I liked this movie. I didn’t loooooove it but I did enjoy my time watching it. The shots are gorgeous. It did have a bit of a 70′s feel to it but I knew that (thanks to the OMR) going into it and it kinda added to my experience.
Perhaps the “one minute” format doesn’t allow for much discussion of content but I was pleasantly surprised by the symbolism of the cross, the themes of origin, belief, and sacrifice.
It also did what a sci-fi thriller should primarily do. It scared the patootie out of me. So that was fun too.
So I guess I’m saying thank you to the OMR for lowering my expectations : )

I thought this was a really disappointing film.
When I walked out of the theater, I thought it was an okay movie, but the more I thought about it the worse it got.

I told my wife coming out that it was “just OK.” I haven’t thought much about it since. Which probably says something about the movie. I’ve thought more about Thor and John Carter, both of which I’ve seen for the first time this week. I’ve actually watched Thor three times. Loved it.

I considered talking about the cross/creator stuff going on in this movie, but I felt like it was so random and underdeveloped that it would waste my small amount of time.
I did want to mention that 2001 called and it wants its villain back, but then I let that go.

Apparently I’m obtuse. Really enjoyed the movie. Not an all-time fave for sure, but still a very enjoyable movie and just what I was hoping for. Plus I love that a zoomed in shot of Thomas has been the dominant image up at the RR all weekend.

This movie wasn’t good. In small (or no small) ways it pushes people further away from the cross instead of closer to it.
Remember when Guy P. dies at the end and he says to the Fassbender head, “There’s nothing on the other side.” And Fass-Head says, “I know.”
Gets people thinking down a wrong path.
Like Pete said perfectly…the more you ponder AFTER the movie, the more the flick sinks down the scale from, Okay to WON’T YOU TAKE ME TO, CRAPPYTOWN!

Now I don’t know whether I’m supposed to like or dislike this movie. This is all so confusing. And now I know that Guy P dies. I want to see it, but I’m not sure which set of cool people I should side with when asked for my opinion. Oh well. I guess I’ll just go see That’s My Boy instead.

My bad! I didn’t mean to mess it up for you. Or, maybe I saved you 8 dollars?
So…
Peradventure, in a good way, I’m not so sorry…
Or still yet…
Maybe I was reffering to Guy P. pushing up dasies in The Count Of Monte Cristo?
Hmmmm.

I’m assuming there’s a part at the end of the film where Guy P stares down the Alien and the Alien says, “Sorry, Guy P. Your Memento tattoos cannot save you this time!” and then the Alien pushes him off the roof.

I’ve never seen Memento……should I?

Absolutely, you should see Memento. A modern noir classic. I’d spoil it for you and tell you what happens at the end, but it’s told backwards, so nevermind.
(Saw Prometheus last night. Thumbs up from me.)
