Podcast Episode 33: Jonathan Rogers, Andrew Osenga, and The Terrible Speed of Mercy
[Editor's note: The audio issue that interuppted the podcast has now been fixed. Those responsible have been sacked.]
What is the deal with Flannery O’Connor? Jonathan Rogers has been asked that question so many times that he finally decided to sit down a write a book about it. In fact, he claims to have written a book about Flannery O’Conner that even Andy Osenga can understand (and that’s saying a lot). So to prove it, Jonathan and Andy sat down recently and had this conversation about NASCAR, Flannery O’Connor, and The Terrible Speed of Mercy.

Great chat between the scholar and the dude. “Not everyone receives the grace offered to them.” I love how you guys teased that out.
Interesting perspective on her style of writing as being disruptive. Reminds me of the C.S. Lewis line about pain being God’s megaphone to rouse a sleeping world.
Love how Lewis came up soon after the above discussion as it seemed to related to Lewis’ ideas.
Looking forward to reading this book and more O’Connor — which could also lead to a trip down to Milledgeville, GA to check out her stomping grounds.
You guys came across Osenga’s English teacher and his ignoring her faith. But, I liken that to Tolkien and how a lot of readers are unaware of his faith.
