Are you sure your blind piano teacher wasn’t Esteban?

Did Randall ever ask Bruce what the song “The Show Goes On” is about? The music alone makes me weep, but I’m still trying to interpret the lyric.

Wonderful podcast, Andy. I have often wondered about the origin of the eclectic flavor of Randy’s music. I thought about Randy when I went to a McCoy Tyner concert recently. Tyner is a legendary keyboardist in the jazz world. Attending the concert was my compromise to my friend for having joined me at a Glen Phillips concert. I wasn’t thrilled about the prospect of watching jazz piano for two hours, but I really enjoyed myself. Watching the show, I said to myself, “Tyner sounds like Randall Goodgame.” HA.
As I listen to a Goodgame record or YouTube video, with shades of Vivaldi, then Bruce Hornsby, and a snippet of the blues or black gospel, now I understand a little bit better.

Gotta know, were any of the cassette tapes salvageable?
