The Act of Remembrance

AUGUST 20 at 7:30 PM

An informative lecture-performance on the historical roots and musical language of African American Spirituals. The profound body of music illustrates the tension of redemptive beauty in times of oppression, resistance and liberation.  This lecture examines the lyric, composition, rhythmic pattern, and dual spiritual and social-political message in African American Spirituals.

A vocalist and composer, Ruth Naomi Floyd has been at the forefront of creating a discography of vocal jazz settings that express theology, history, and justice. Ruth leads her multi-faceted jazz ensemble, and her discography consists primarily of original compositions. Ruth performs and lectures on the intersection of beauty, theology, justice, culture, and the arts at universities, seminaries, conferences, and performance centers worldwide.

The Local Show

FIRST TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH

On the first Tuesdays of most months, the Rabbit Room presents The Local Show at North Wind Manor

Each show features a new line-up of some of Nashville's best singers and songwriters. The show is one way in which we incarnate the Rabbit Room community, cultivate local singer-songwriters, and nourish our local communities with music, laughter, and hope.
