Meet Reagan

"By simply bearing witness to the beautiful true goodness in the world, the Rabbit Room community confirms our values, reaffirms our desires, renews our hope, and refreshes our spirits for the work we have been called to take up.”

After attending her first Hutchmoot in 2013, Reagan made it a priority to gather in her community for connection, encouragement, sharing of creative work, or edifying tomfoolery. Because of this, she has been informally dubbed the “Moot Queen” by the Rabbit Room. Reagan shares, “Moot-culture has become a part of our lives ever since. Gamemoots. Breakfastmoots. Perhaps one day we'll hold our own Prairiemoot.”

In 2019, Reagan attended a “Midwestmoot” that connected her to new friends in her area where they sang around the fire, traipsed across the fields, and read liturgies from Every Moment Holy. " During the pandemic, she gathered with friends and family to experience Hutchmoot Homebound. Together, Reagan and her community prepared an extravaganza of cheese boards and soups and scones, while playing, talking, and singing in between watching Homebound videos. Each occasion was an opportunity for Reagan to share what she loved with those she loved.

Loving our neighbor can be lonely work. The Rabbits we have gotten to know help us feel less alone. By simply bearing witness to the beautiful true goodness in the world, the Rabbit Room community confirms our values, reaffirms our desires, renews our hope, and refreshes our spirits for the work we have been called to take up.

A Moot Amongst Friends

With her love for gathering comes her love for what’s being enjoyed amongst friends! Though Reagan has enjoyed many Rabbit Room fruits she particularly enjoyed exploring the podcast network. Her favorite podcasts include The Mole Hill and Call It Good.  She's always been encouraged by conversations emerging from the Rabbit Room, one podcast sticks out the most. She says,

“For the last five years my Monday morning ritual is to cue up The Habit Podcast and listen as I wash dishes at my kitchen sink, while my daughter does her schoolwork at the table. You can imagine my surprise when one fall morning I received an invitation to be a guest on my own favorite podcast! The dear writers in The Habit have deeply impacted my life. Even though I studied Creative Writing in college, it's a continual group of writers who welcome me to the table of writing again and again. They do more than give me mere permission to write; they are the Holy Spirit's own voice calling me to write. I would have given up writing long ago if it weren't for their encouragement.”

From moots to podcasts, liturgies to kindred spirits, Reagan’s Rabbit Room experience has positively encouraged her to dig deeper into the works and programs. After prayerfully considering God’s calling for their financial stewardship, Reagan and her family joined the membership, a group of donors supporting the life and works of the Rabbit Room.

I fully believe Jesus' words: It is better to give than to receive. And the only way to know what's "better" about it is to try it and see for yourself! We have sought out friendships online and at moots and gained friends around the world. Through friendship we comfort and are comforted, we challenge and are challenged, we encourage and are encouraged. I've struck up email conversations through the short-lived Rabbit Room forums; I've accumulated penpals through the Christmas gift exchanges; I've discovered, savored, and cherished myriad stories and music and art, now rich compost in the leaf-mould of the mind.
